JAMMU, June 20: In a major breakthrough, Jammu Police today solved different cases of chain snatching and arrested six persons including three chain snatchers operating in the City and outskirts.
“There were various complaints of chain snatching in different police stations following which special teams were constituted,” Shakeel Beig-Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Kathua Ranger told reporters this evening in the presence of SSP Jammu Atul Goel..
The DIG said that on June 19, three suspects were detained in theft cases and during course of investigations they confessed their involvement in chain snatching incidents.
The accused were identified as Ajay Pratap Singh alias Abbu, resident of Nariana Mohalla, Pacca Danga, Vidit Gawri, resident of Sidhra and Ankush Sharma alias Don, resident of Gole Gujral.
“On their disclosure, eight gold chain and three artificial chains snatched from different locations were also recovered,” Mr Beig said adding that three motorcycles being used in the offence have also been seized.
The DIG further added that three jewellers, who used to purchase stolen and snatched gold items from the accused persons were also detained on their disclosure for questioning.
They were identified as Om Prakash, resident of Rehari, Rahul Dogra, resident of Janipur and Ankit Kumar, resident of Peermitha.
“With the arrest of these persons almost all the cases of chain snatching in the City and outskirts have been solved,” the DIG said and added that the concerned police officers have been directed to remain alert and tighten noose against miscreants to give crime free society to the people.
