SRINAGAR, May 23: Principal District and Sessions Judge, Pulwama, Abdul Rashid Malik today convicted three persons namely Ghulam Ganai, Maqbool Ganai and Nazir Ahmad Ganai under Section 304 and 323 RPC.
The court sentenced accused Nazir Ahmad Ganai to seven years rigorous imprisonment and fine of rupees one lakh. The amount of fine has been directed to be paid to the mother of the deceased Danish Farooq as compensation.
While awarding the compensation, the Court took into consideration the directions of the Supreme Court with regard to payment of compensation to the victims of crime. The court also directed that the mother of the victim shall be given the benefit of Victims Compensation Scheme of 2013 formulated vide SRO 229 of 2013 dated 23-04-2013 read with SRO 349 of 2013 dated 09-09-2013.
Under the scheme, the victim of crime is entitled to receive the compensation of Rs 2 lakh to be paid by the State Legal Service Authority on account of loss of life. This amount has also been directed to be paid to the mother of the deceased.
