3 cops detained, Rs 2 lakh fake currency seized

Srinagar, Apr 17: Police in North Kashmir district of Kupwara have detained three police men and a hotel owner in fake currency racket that was busted today.
Police sources said that Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police detained Constable Javed Ahmad of Rafiabad in district Baramulla and Special Police Officer (SPO) Manzoor Ahmad of Khumriyal Kupwara from Lolab in district Kupwara today. “Fake currency of Rs 2 lakh was recovered from them”, sources added.
After preliminary questioning, one more SPO Tanveer Ahmad of Keran and owner of Hotel Naaz in Hajjaj Market in Kupwara, Showkat Lohar was also detained in connection with the fake currency racket.
The two SPOs and constable are working with SOG Kupwara and so far none of four detained persons have been handed over to any Police Station for questioning.
Police are tight tipped over the fake currency racket and detention of the four men. It is not yet clear whether there is any militancy connection with the fake currency or not.
This is for the third time policemen were detained or arrested in past one week. Earlier Police in Srinagar arrested four police constables on charges of robbery in Batmaloo area of Srinagar.
A complainant lodged by one Shabir Ahmad Bhat resident of Lachmanpora, Batamaloo in which he had stated that he was robbed by some armed uniformed men at Solina on April 3 this year. He alleged that they took away Rs 50, 000 at gun point.
Police registered a case (FIR No 20/2013 under Section 392/RPC) in Police Station Shergarhi, Srinagar and arrested 4 constables Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Javed Ahmad Lone, Showkat Ahmad Malik and Manzoor Ahmad Hajam for robbery.
Police also arrested a constable and an SPO in Budgam after a lady constable levelled allegation of sexual assault and kidnapping against them.
