SRINAGAR, Aug 22: In a series of cop killings in South Kashmir, a Police officer is among three cops killed while an officer escape a bid on his life and body of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) leader who was shot dead last night was recovered early today.
Militants this evening barged into the residential house of Inspector Mohammad Ashraf at Larve in district Pulwama and fired upon him. The Police officer was critically injured and succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.
Initial investigation established that he was killed by the militants of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. The officer was posted at DPL Budgam and had gone home for Eid.
Security forces immediately reached the spot and massive searches have been launched against the militants responsible for the killing.
Another Police officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police Dilbar Ahmad escaped bid on his life this evening when militants barged into his house at Diaroo village in Kellar area of Shopian and fired at him. He escaped unhurt as he jumped out of window but militants broke window panes of the house and valuables.
Militants also barged into the house of SHO Tral, Mohammad Yusuf in Khiram area of Bijbehara area of Anantnag district this morning but he was not at home and had left two hours before the militants reached his house. His brother was, however, beaten up.
And militants this evening let off the abducted former police man in Shopian district of South Kashmir. Shakoor Ahmad Parray son of Sadiq Ahmad Parray of Kumdalan Shopian was abducted last evening by militants from his shop. He was, however, released this evening with a bullet injury in his left arm. He was also beaten up by militants.
Parray was in Police Department but he joined militancy in 2015 and was later apprehended and released by the Police. He was running a shop in the area.
Militants fired upon and killed a policeman in Awgam village of Kulgam district of South Kashmir today. The cop, identified as Fayaz Ahmad Shah of Zazripora village, was coming out from a local Majid after Eid prayers this morning and was on way to home when militants fired at him leaving him in a pool of blood. The cop was critically injured in the firing and later succumbed at nearby hospital.
Shah, who was earlier working as a Special Police Officer (SPO) was recently promoted as constable. He had come home on leave few days back from Manigam where he was undergoing training. Security forces arrived on the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.
Police has registered a case under relevant sections of law and investigation in the instant matter has been initiated.
The spokesman said a wreath laying ceremony was held at District Police Lines Kulgam which was attended by senior police officers who laid floral wreaths.
Another policeman was killed by militants at Louswani area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The cop, identified as Mohammad Yaqoob son of Lal Shah of Louswani, was fired upon by the militants from the point-blank range outside his home at Louswani village. He was critically injured in the firing and was immediately taken to Primary Health Centre (PHC) Newa where from he was referred to Srinagar hospital for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to injuries later on way to Srinagar hospital.
Meanwhile, security forces reached the spot and launched a manhunt to nab the assailants.
A wreath laying function was held at District Police Lines Pulwama, this evening. Police officers led by Inspector General of Police Kashmir Zone SP Pani along with District SP Pulwama Chandan Kohli and other officers of CRPF and Army laid floral wreaths on the mortal remains and paid rich tributes to the cop.
In the meantime, bullet ridden body of BJP local leader, Shabir Ahmad Bhat of Pathan in district Pulwama was recovered by police and Army in fields at Rakh Litter in the district at around 1:30 a.m today.
Shabir who was active member of BJP was abducted by militants near his home at 8 pm yesterday and was shot at 9:45 p.m. The militants fired upon him at Rakh Litter which is almost 12 kilometers away from his home. The locals informed the police that they heard few gunshots in fields and later Army and Police conducted searches and at about 1:30 a.m recovered his body.
And two militants who were trapped by security forces in a village in Langate area of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night escaped from the cordon under the cover of darkness.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Ganapora village of Langate yesterday following inputs about the presence of two militants who were hiding in a house.
As the troops conducted searches in the village, militants fired on the troops from the house where they were hiding, leading to a fierce encounter and two militants were trapped in a house.
Security forces blasted off the house in which the militants were hiding but they managed to escape under the cover of darkness. Security forces after conducting searches of the area and debris found no militants in the morning and later called of the operation.
