3-day annual conference of ASI J&K chapter begins today

JAMMU, Apr 18: J&K Chapter of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) is organizing 3-day Annual Conference titled ‘JAKASICON’ at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu in collaboration with Postgraduate Department of Surgery GMC Jammu and ASCOMS with effect from tomorrow (April 19).
This was disclosed by organizing chairman of the Conference, Prof Sanjay Bhasin while addressing a press conference, which was also attended by chief patron Prof Ashutosh Gupta, patron Prof Nasib Chand Digra, organizing secretaries Dr Harbinder Singh, Dr Shyam Gupta and other members of organizing committee. Prof Bhasin further informed that Association of Surgeons of India is the second largest surgical body in the world and first largest in the Asia-Pacific, and JK Chapter is an important chapter being headed by him. This conference is a three-day mega surgical event that shall be attended by all the surgeons and under trainees from all over J&K and faculty from AIIMS, PGI, Chennai, Jaipur etc. This event shall benefit both surgeons and ultimately the patients.
Prof Ashutosh Gupta, while addressing reporters, said that the GMC is taking leads in ensuring advancement in medical research by inviting reputed experts from across the country. He said these conferences help in exchanging views and opinions about different allied specialties of the Department of Surgery. He was hopeful that this mega-event is going to be a success and wished the whole organizing team a success.
Dr Nasib Chand Digra also spoke on the occasion. He stressed about the need for latest in the medical research to augment our surgical heritage, by organizing such surgical conferences, which can help in patient care.
Dr Harbinder Singh Bali mentioned about the need of welcoming technological advancements, without forgetting basics and ethics while Dr Rajni Bhardwaj expressed hope that this event is going to be the right mixture of traditional surgical teaching and newer advancements including minimal access surgeries.
Other members present during the conference were Dr Shyam Gupta (organizing secretary), Dr Satish Parihar, Dr Sanjay Sharma, Dr Sanjay Dhar, Dr Javid Iqbal, Dr Vijay Kumar, Dr Manmeet Kour, Dr Varun Dogra, Dr Raheel Naqvi and Dr Amit Kumar.
