3-day Jammu Festival from April 13

JAMMU, Apr 11: Dogra Sadar Sabha, J&K in collaboration with State Administration is organizing different functions during the “Jammu Festival” from April 13 to 15 with enthusiasm and gaiety.
Disclosing this at a press conference here today, former Minister and president Dogra Sadar Sabha, Gulchain Singh Charak said that originally this festival was named as “Duggar Mela” which was aimed at presenting the pristine cultural heritage of Dogra region extending throughout the State.
Reiterating that the annual event mainly aimed at showcasing the history, heritage, culture and age old tradition of peaceful co-existence and communal harmony among different sections of society irrespective of caste, creed, colour and religion was conceptualized by Dogra Sadar Sabha on Baisakhi in 1994. He disclosed that on the occasion statues of Raja Jambulochan alongwith a lion and a goat drinking water together in the same pond, were installed near Shri Ranbireshwar Temple, Jammu.
He disclosed that during the celebrations this year, a procession consisting of groups and tableaus presented by various ethnic, social, cultural and commercial associations including the Muslim Federation, District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Jammu and Christine Biradari depicting the vast cultural diversity of Duggar land is being organized on April 13 (Baisakhi day), as beginning of the three day event. The procession will be led by the historic tableaus and participants comprising of eminent personalities and artists showcasing their contribution in maintaining ethnic, social and cultural harmony in Jammu province. The procession will start from Vivekanand Chowk at 11 am and culminate at Mubarak Mandi after passing through the main bazaars of Jammu city.
On April 14, a grand function at the site of the statue of the great Dogra warrior General Zorawar Singh, near Bahu Plaza, Gandhi Nagar will be organised to commemorate the General’s birth anniversary. The Late General’s own regiment, 4 JAK Rifles, is being associated in the celebrations to be held at 4 pm on April 14, 2016. This ceremony will be followed by another function being organized at Balidan Stambh, Jammu to commemorate the sacrifices of valiant soldiers who laid down their lives for saving the unity and integrity of our State and the country.
A grand finale to the Jammu Festival is being organized in the form of a gala event by holding a “Kavi Sammelan” by the Sabha on April 15, 2016 at 6 pm at Dogra Sadar Sabha Bhawan, Jammu wherein, a galaxy of local poets representing different languages of the region will enthrall the audience.
