JAMMU, Jan 27: The leaders of various NGOs while supporting the initiative of MLA Jammu East Rajesh Gupta regarding holding of grand mela from February 15 to 18 in connection with celebrations of Maha Shivratri at holy temple of Peer Kho here appealed the people and tourists coming to the State to participate in this mega event which will be first of its kind in Jammu.
Addressing a joint press conference here, today JP Sharma, Chairman Investigation Wing, All India Anti Crime and Anti Corruption, Yash Pal Singh president of the organization along with other office bearers including its press secretary Thakur Dhooni Chand, Ved Sharma, Rajesh Gupta, its State coordinator, Ram Paul Sharma, president All Jammu and Kashmir Awareness and Welfare Society, Parveen Sarna of Jammu and Kashmir Urban Development Council, Alok Nanda presidential Medal Awardee appealed the people to attend the mela in large number and make it a grand success.
They said the Peer Kho cave is the abode of Lord Shiva and thousands of devotees across the country keep on thronging this holy cave which is also known as Jamwant cave and have the darshan of the Aap Shambo there.
The representatives of NGOs expressed the hope that Mr Gupta who has taken keen interest in the development of the area will soon after the formation of Government take up the renovation work of all religious places in the area who have been neglected for years together due to official apathy.
They said Mr Gupta during his maiden visit to holy shrine after becoming MLA has announced to celebrate Shivratri festival in a grand way by organizing a three day long mela from February 15 to 18. During the mela besides cultural programme, Bhakti Sangeet, food of various varieties including Dogra specialties and various competitions of the school children will be organized.
