3-day State level workshop inaugurates at SKPA

UDHAMPUR, Nov 19: A three day State level workshop on “anti-human trafficking” sponsored by Bureau of Police Research and Development, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India was inaugurated at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur here today. Number of Police officers of the rank of SI to DySPs participated.
The main objective of the workshop is to make the law enforcement agencies aware of the trafficking problem at the national and international platform, the response of various organizations at international level to counter human trafficking and its subsequent implications.
The inaugural session was addressed by Addl. District & Sessions Judge Udhampur Mohinder Kumar Sharma, who emphasized that human trafficking is a crime of such magnitude and atrocity that it can be dealt with successfully by any Government alone. This global problem requires a global, multi stake holder strategy that builds on national efforts throughout the world.
He further stressed that this subject is of vital importance in the context of present scenario as the Union Home Minister presently chaired a meeting of Southern Zonal Council on the subject.
He said that human trafficking has assumed serious dimensions which further require special measures for the protection of women and children. It was decided in the meeting that a nodal agency would be created in south India to combat human trafficking and a court be set up in one of the States in the region to try such cases.
Further, the lectures were delivered by distinguished guest speakers  Dr. Poonam Dhawan Director Department. of lifelong learning, University of Jammu, Dr. Savita Nayar, Law Department. University of Jammu and Baldev Singh Manhas, Retired Director Prosecution having vast experience on the topics “An over view on Human Trafficking/ Rehabilitation of Victims”, “NHRC guidelines with regards to missing children and comprehensive scheme for strengthening laws” and “legal aspects about the prevention of human trafficking”.
