JAMMU, Feb 28: A three-day workshop for working Journalist of Jammu province, began today at Jammu University.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof Ali Javed, former Director National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD while Prof M P Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor, JU, presided over the inaugural function.
The workshop is being organized by National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language, Ministry of HRD in collaboration with Centre for Professional Studies in Urdu, University of Jammu. About 40 working Journalist belonging to different newspapers of Jammu province are participating in the workshop.
In his presidential address, Prof Ishar hoped that the workshop would help create awareness on the need for media practitioners to strive without compromise and any inducement to improve on ethics and professionalism.
Prof Ali Javed threw light on the aims and objectives of Journalism. He said that a true Journalist should be impartial and realistic. He informed that that National Council for Promotion of Urdu Language is organizing different types of programmes in the country.
On the occasion, six monthly research Journal `Tasasul’ on Manto Number was also released. This has been edited and compiled by Prof Shohab Inayat Malik.
Asaf Malik presented a paper on Mantoo Number and described it as most important for Urdu students.
Earlier in his welcome address Prof. Shohab Inayat Malik spoke in detail about the objectives of the workshop.
Dr Mohd Reyaz Ahmed conducted proceeding of the programme while vote of thanks was presented by Prof Sukhchain Singh, Head, Deptt of Urdu.
Among others Prof Neelam Saraf, Dean Academic Affairs, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to VC, Dr Farhat Rizvi from Rashtriya Shora Delhi, Khursheed Kazmi, Sham Talib, scholars, students and staff were also present on the occasion.
