3 drug peddlers held with contraband

SRINAGAR, Jan 4: Police in a series of actions today said to have arrested 3 drug peddlers in Kulgam, Bandipora and Anantnag while recovering contraband substances from their possession.
In Kulgam, a Police party of PS Qaimoh at a checkpoint established at Redwani Payeen intercepted one suspicious person who tried to skip the checkpoint but the alert police party chased him and apprehended tactfully.
“The arrested person has been identified as Ruman Kumar, son of Balkishan, resident of Sundernagar Hoshiarpur. During checking, police was able to recover 50Kgs of Poppy straw & 1Kgs of Charas from his possession. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
Similarly in Bandipora, a police party led by SHO PS Bandipora under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Bandipora established a checkpoint at Nowpora chowk and apprehended a suspicious person identified as Ghulam Mustafa Fafoo, son of Ghulam Nabi Fafoo, resident of Ashtango Ghat.
“During checking, police was able to recover 28 strips of banned drug from his possession. He has been shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police said.
In Anantnag, police said, Police Station Achabal received specific information through reliable sources that one person namely Abdul Hameed Chopan son of Abdul Gani Chopan, resident of Malpora Ranipora Achabal has hoarded a large quantity of narcotic substances in his residential house.
On receipt of this information, a search team headed by SHO, PS Achabal along with the Executive Magistrate concerned raided the said location.
“During the search, police was able to recover 71.5Kgs of Poppy straw from the said house. The accused person was arrested and shifted to Police Station where he remains in custody,” police said.
