DODA, May 4: Three persons were feared dead, when the tipper they were traveling in, skidded-off the road and rolled down into river Chenab near Karara, falling under the jurisdiction of Thathri police station.
The ill-fated vehicle bearing registration number JK06-6459, was on its way to Doda from Thathri, when the driver lost control over the vehicle probably due to slippery road conditions and the tipper plunged in river Chenab near Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp at Karara, resulting into drowning of three persons including driver.
After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and divers were pressed in to fish out the bodies from the river Chenab. The tipper also got submerged in the river Chenab.
The drowned persons have been identified as Mehboob Ali (driver of the tipper), son of Abdul Rashid Mughal of Kilotran, Ishtiaq Ahmed, son of Mushtaq Ahmed of Kilotran and Arif Hussain, son of Javaid Iqbal, a resident of Changa.
A case in this regard has also been registered at concerned police station and expert divers have been called and an alert has been sounded along river Chenab to locate the driver and others.
Due to poor management of the district administration, the parents of the deceased persons, relatives and other people held protest and blocked the vehicular movement at Karara. They were demanding immediate retrieving of the bodies from the river Chenab.
Later, MLA Doda Shakti Parihar, MLA Bhaderwah Dileep Parihar, MLA Ramban Neelam Langeh, DC Doda Bhupinder Kumar and SSP Doda Z N Manhas reached the spot and assured the protestors that the operation to trace-out the bodies has been put on rapid mode and will surely retrieve the bodies.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
However, the bodies remained untraced till last reports were compiled.
MLA Bhaderwah Dileep Parihar while talking to the Excelsior said that he called SSP Doda but no swift action was taken.
Delay was made to create law and order problem in this peaceful region, he said and demanded a probe to ascertain why the rescue operation was delayed.
