JAMMU, Nov 25: In a joint operation, Pathankot and Kathua police tonight nabbed three suspects from Kashmir when they were travelling in Rajasthan bound Pooja Express from Jammu to Alwar. They were also carrying Bullet motor cycle along with them to Rajasthan in luggage bogey of the train.
Police sources said they got specific input that three suspects from Kashmir had boarded Pooja Express in Jammu and were heading towards Alwar in Rajasthan after reaching here from Srinagar on the bike.
Joint police parties led by SP Operations Pathankot Hem Pushp and Additional SP Kathua Nassir Khan subjected the train to checking at Chakki Bank railway station in Pathankot district of Punjab when it reached there at 8.30 pm. The train was stopped for 65 minutes.
However, the police parties assured the passengers not to panic and keep sitting in their bogeys.
Police detained three Kashmir suspects from one of the bogeys of Pooja Express. The Bullet motor cycle, which they had booked in luggage bogey of the train, was also off-loaded.
The train was allowed to leave for New Delhi after over an hour long searches.
The Kashmir suspects were shifted to Pathankot Police Station No. 2, where they were being questioned to ascertain their motive for visiting Rajasthan, where Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on December 7 and electioneering was on.
One of the suspects had reached Jammu in the same Pooja Express from Rajasthan while two others had reached here this evening from Srinagar to Jammu riding on Bullet motor cycle. All three had already booked their return tickets for Alwar in the same train along with motor cycle in the luggage bogey.
One of the suspects, who had reached here this morning, was studying in Alwar, sources said.
According to police, antecedents of the suspects and Call Detailed Records (CDRs) of their mobile telephones are being verified to know whether they were involved in the militancy or not.
Their questioning is being conducted jointly by Punjab and Kathua Police.
During the day today, Delhi Special Cell of Police with the help of Kashmir Police had arrested three Islamic State Jammu Kashmir (ISJK) militants in Srinagar.
PTI adds from Chandigarh:
Three people from Jammu and Kashmir, who were travelling in an Express train headed towards Rajasthan, were de-boarded and detained at the Pathankot railway station on the basis of suspicion, a senior police officer said.
All the three men have been detained and were being questioned about their antecedents, Punjab Police’s Border Range IG, S S Parmar said.
Pathankot and its adjoining areas continue to be under a strict vigil, especially after the 2016 terror attack here.
Security agencies in Pathankot and adjoining districts have also been on alert after four people, travelling in a hired SUV from Jammu, had snatched the vehicle from its driver at gunpoint near Madhopur area on November 13.
When asked whether three or six men have been detained, Parmar said, “Three men from Jammu and Kashmir have been detained at Pathankot for verification of their antecedents.”
They were travelling from Jammu in Pooja Express, he said, adding they are being quizzed.
