SRINAGAR, June 11 : Three militants, two belonging to Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind (AGH), were killed in two separate gun battles in North and South Kashmir today.
A joint team of Army’s 1 RR, SOG and CRPF laid a cordon at Awneera village in Shopian district of South Kashmir this morning after reports about presence of militants hiding in the village.
Militants were trapped in an under construction house in the village. During the encounter, two militants of Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind (AGH) were killed. Police said that militants were challenged by security forces and they opened fire on troops, leading to a gun battle.
The killed militants have been identified as Sayar Ahmad Bhat son of Sanauallah of Manchowa Kulgam and Shakir Ahmad Wagay of Awneera Shopian. A pistol and few ammunition rounds were recovered from the encounter site.
Police said that incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter.
“Citizens are requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any”, police said.
Meanwhile, in wake of the encounter, authorities have snapped mobile internet service in the Southern district.
A militant was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Wadoora Payeen village of Sopore in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district this evening.
Army 22 RR, SOG Sopore, 177, 179 and 92 CRPF Batallions and police cordoned off Wadoora Payeen village today after inputs about presence of militants hiding in the village.
As security forces intensified the searches, militants hiding in the area opened fire, leading to a gunfight in which one militant was killed so far. He said that the identity and group affiliation of the slain is being ascertained.
The firing has stopped and searches are going on in the area and security forces believe that one more militant is hiding in the house.
In wake of the operation, the authorities snapped internet services in Sopore.
Meanwhile, ADC Sopore said that in view of the prevailing situation and as a precautionary measure all the Government and private educational institutions, in sub division Sopore will suspend their class work on 12th of June.
