Srinagar, Apr 1: The appointment of the Registrar at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora has been in limbo for the past three months, as it awaits approval from Chancellor Manoj Sinha.
Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad Zari was selected for the position in December 2023 after a thorough selection process, but the process has been stalled for the last three months as it is yet to receive a green signal from the chancellor’s office for some unknown reasons.
Official sources told Excelsior that the Kashmir University, where Dr. Zari currently serves as joint Registrar, applied for his three-year deputation in December 2023. However, the file forwarded by the Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University is still awaiting approval from Chancellor Sinha’s office.
“The Vice Chancellor of Kashmir University has forwarded the file to the Chancellor’s office, but it is yet to receive a green signal,” a top official said.
The selection process saw nearly thirteen applicants vying for the Registrar position, with six shortlisted for interviews on 19th December last year. Although Dr. Zari’s appointment was confirmed with the issuance of the appointment order on December 21, the final step remains elusive, hampering the University’s operational efficiency.
The prolonged delay in appointing a Registrar has left the University grappling with administrative and academic challenges. A group of teachers at IUST emphasized the critical importance of filling the Registrar position promptly to ensure the smooth operation of the university.
“Although the controller of examination has been given additional charges, it is overburdening him, and things do not move at the right pace,” a teacher said.
While emphasizing the need for decisive action to address the ongoing vacancy and its impact on the University’s functioning, the teachers called for readvertisement of the posts.
“If there are any issues with the appointment, the administration should re-advertise the post and look for another available prospectus. There are other names in the order of administration, and they should either re-advertise the post or fill the position with other applicants in the list,” the teachers said.
