3 more arrested for marriage of 13-year old girl

UDHAMPUR, Aug 14: In connection with forcible marriage of a 13-year old girl with a man of 35-years in Ramnagar, Police has arrested three more persons, including parents of the husband and the priest, who performed the marriage rituals.
Parents of the victim girl and her husband were already arrested and a case FIR number 95/2020, under section 9/10/11 Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 2006, has been registered in this connection at Police Station Ramnagar.
The matter had come into light on complaint of the local Sarpanch following which investigation officer visited the place of occurrence i.e village Katwalt and prepared sketch besides recording statements of the people.
After collecting all related documentary evidences and establishing offence against Daya Ram (Husband), son of Santokhu of Gagote, Ramnagar and the minor girl’s parents, Rajkumar (father), son of Fina, resident of Katwalt and mother Sushma, Police arrested the trio for solemnizing marriage of a minor girl.
Later, the victim girl’s father in-law and mother in-law, identified as Santhoku son of Bhagat Ram of Gagote and his wife Shanu as well as priest Rattan, son of Kiker of Gagote were also arrested.
Police team, led by SHO Ramnagar Jasbinder Singh and SDPO G R Bhardwaj made the arrests and handed over the victim girl to her maternal aunt Shano Devi through Child Welfare Committee Udhampur.
Meanwhile, Police has also clarified that in death case of young housewife Eva Raina, wife of Vikrant Sharma on August 8 at village Majalta, no inquest proceedings were initiated as it was a clear case of murder in the first instance.
As already reported by the Excelsior, Police has arrested husband of the deceased, mother in-law Makhana Devi and sister in-law Manta Badyal, who confessed to have killed the woman by strangulating her because of domestic reasons.
