JAMMU, Jan 18: Manwal and Jhajjar Kotli Police jointly arrested three members of a family among four along with 29 kilograms of cannabis worth around Rs 2 crores.
This was stated by SDPO Nagrota Mohan Lal Sharma while interacting with the reporters here today.
Divulging the details, SDPO informed that a joint team from Manwal Police Post and Jhajjar Kolti Police Station laid a naka and intercepted a Santro car bearing registration number DL4CS-9469, which was coming from Udhampur side towards Jammu.
On observing some suspicious activity, the search of the vehicle was conducted, SDPO said, adding that during search, police team recovered 29 kilograms of cannabis worth around Rs 2 crores from the vehicle and arrested four persons including a lady traveling in the car.
The arrested persons were identified as Firdous Ahmed (driver), son of Mohammad Sultan of Sopore District Baramulla, Rafiq Ahmed, son of Ali Mohammad Khan, Ali Mohammad Khan, son of Ibrahim Khan and Sahiba Noori, wife of Ali Mohammad Khan, all residents of village Dever Inderbug Kakad Tehsil Sogam District Kupwara.
SDPO stated that the accused were smuggling the consignment from Srinagar to Jammu and neighbouring state Punjab for selling among the youth, adding that with their arrest, police saved the future of hundreds of youths from becoming drug addicts.
A case under FIR Number 14/2020 under section 8/20/ 25/29 NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Jhajjar Kotli and investigation has been started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons involved in this illegal trade.
The seizure and arrest was made by Incharge Police Post Manwal SI Vikram Singh accompanied by SHO Jhajjar Kotli Inspector Rajesh Khajuria under the supervision of SDPO Nagrota Mohan Lal Sharma, SP Rural Suram Singh and SSP Jammu Tejinder Singh.
