JAMMU, Dec 7: At least three Pakistan army troopers were killed, two others injured and their five posts were destroyed opposite Sunderbani sector in Rajouri district overnight when Indian Army and BSF retaliated to Pakistan shelling and firing in which a BSF soldier had attained martyrdom and another was seriously injured.
Sources told the Excelsior that Indian Army and BSF undertook major retaliatory action against Pakistan army, which violated the ceasefire agreement first and resorted to shelling and firing on forward Indian posts of Army and BSF along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sunderbani sector.
A BSF jawan was martyred and another injured in the attack.
“In the Indian retaliation, at least three Pakistani troopers were killed and two others were injured as their five posts collapsed,” sources said, adding that retaliatory action against Pakistan army was necessitated as they had first violated the agreement reached on Brigade Commander-level flag meeting at Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch sector on November 23 to maintain peace on the LoC and commitment to 2003 ceasefire agreement.
There was panic in the Pakistani camp opposite Sunderbani sector after the Indian retaliation and ambulances could be seen ferrying dead and injured troopers of Pakistan, sources pointed.
Shelling and firing from Pakistan side stopped after the Indian retaliation.
This was the first major ceasefire violation on the LoC in twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri after the November 23 Brigade Commander-level flag meeting, sources pointed out and said Pakistan has been given very effective and strong reply.
There have been reports that Pakistan was trying to facilitate infiltration attempts by the militants through the LoC as number of militants had gathered at the launching pads with a view to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir.
However, the militants haven’t been able to intrude in view of alertness being displayed by the troops on the LoC. Several infiltration attempts have been successfully foiled by the troops, sources said.
However, they added, that number of militants at launch pads on Pakistan side of the LoC continued to swell notwithstanding the arrival of winter as there were reports that Pakistani troops could try to push the militants using some passes, where there is less snowfall.
Army was, however, fully prepared to thwart the infiltration attempts.
Army has been maintaining very high alert on the LoC and won’t allow the militants to infiltrate, sources said.
Meanwhile, the BSF today paid tributes to Constable Prosenjit Biswas, who was martyred in Pakistani firing while defending the LoC in Sunderbani sector of Rajouri district.
A wreath-laying ceremony was organized at the Jammu frontier BSF camp at Paloura, where rich tributes were paid to the slain soldier.
IG BSF Ram Awtar said Biswas was a brave and sincere border man, and the nation will always remain indebted to him for his supreme sacrifice.
He said after the ceasefire violation from Pakistani side, the BSF retaliated strongly and effectively on Pakistan Army posts.
The mortal remains of the martyr will be sent to Kolkata and then to his native place — Balla Shisha village in Nadia district of West Bengal.
