ATTARI, Oct 26: Three Pakistani smugglers were shot dead during a failed infiltration attempt and 24kg heroin worth Rs 120 crore recovered from them along with weapons by Border Security Force personnel here.
According to BSF Inspector General (Punjab Frontier) Ajay Tomar, the three intruders had last night crossed over into Indian territory when they were challenged by a BSF patrol near the Indo-Pak border at Mullapur village.
Asked to surrender, the intruders responded by opening fire, prompting the BSF personnel to retaliate, killing the trio.
A massive search operation was launched in the morning near the border area during which the bodies of the trio were found with bullet injuries.
Security personnel recovered 24kg heroin along with one AK 47 rifle, two pistols, Rs 610 in Pakistani currency, three Pakistani mobiles loaded with SIM cards and 57 live cartridges from the slain trio.
The dead intruders are estimated to have been aged between 25 and 30 years. (PTI)
