3 peddlers arrested with charas, poppy

Srinagar, Apr 13: Police today arrested three drug peddlers in Handwara and Kulgam, recovering 106 grams of charas and 2.5 kgs of poppy straw from their possession.
Authorities reported that a police party from Police Post Magam, led by Incharge PP Magam under the supervision of SDPO Handwara and SHO Handwara, intercepted a vehicle (Tata Sumo) bearing registration number JK09-4301 at Khanpora Crossing with two persons on board.
Police identified them as Irshad Ahmad Lone (Driver), son of Ab Gani Lone, resident of Taratpura, and Shabir Ahmad Marazi, son of Gh Rasool Marazi, resident of Summer Bug Lasjan Srinagar.
During the search of the vehicle, police recovered 106 grams of charas-like contraband substance from their possession.
“They have been arrested and shifted to the police station where they remain in custody. The vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized,” police stated.
In Kulgam, authorities mentioned that a police party from Police Station Qazigund, at a checkpoint established at Shampora crossing, intercepted a suspicious person carrying a nylon bag.
During the search, officers recovered 2.5 kgs of poppy straw-like contraband substance filled in the said bag from his possession.
According to police, he has been identified as Arbaaz Ahmad Lone, son of Shabir Ahmad Lone, resident of Qazigund.
“He has been arrested and shifted to the police station where he remains in custody,” police added.
