3 quintal unhygienic milk destroyed, ‘Petha’ unit closed by Food Safety team

JAMMU, Nov 6: A team of Food Safety wing of Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO) Jammu today destroyed 3 quintals of unhygienic milk at a milk shop and closed down a ‘Petha’ manufacturing unit in Jammu city.
The action came following extensive market checking by the Food Safety teams on the eve of Deepawali and other upcoming festivals. Getting a lead regarding manufacturing of ‘Petha’ in most unhygienic condition at M/s New Jai Maa Shakti Petha Food Products Unit located at Bhagwati Nagar, the Food safety team led by Deputy Commissioner Food Safety carried out thorough inspection of the Unit along with local councilor and found gross violation Food safety Act including high contamination and unhygienic environment. The team lifted samples of ‘Petha’ and the Unit was closed for further operation under the Food safety.
The team with the help of MFTV collected 4 samples of ‘Khoya’ and ‘Paneer’ in Hari Market Jammu and seized 80 kg suspected Khoya and Paneer till the outcome of the report of analysis of these samples. The team further raided the establishment of M/s Pandit Paneer and Curd Shop located at Peer Mitha where sample of ‘Paneer’ was collected for quality analysis. Meanwhile, suspected 1.5 quintal ‘Paneer’ from the shop was seized and kept under the custody.
Moreover, three quintals of milk was found in disgusting condition at M/s Pandit Paneer and Curd Shop as it was full of cockroaches, insects and numerous house flies. Resultantly, the Food safety team destroyed the milk on the spot with a strict warning to the proprietor of the shop to desist from such malpractice.
