UDHAMPUR, May 1: A three storey godown of hardware items was completely gutted in a major fire at Mantalai, here today.
Even as there was no loss of life, the godown was completely gutted in the fire causing damage of property worth lakhs of rupees.
The fire broke out today in the three storey hardware godown owned by Krishan Lal, son of Laxman Dass, resident of Mantalai.
Even as locals along with Police team from Police Post Sudhmahadev tried their best to save the precious items by showering water on the godown, but nothing could be saved.
The fire tenders could not reach timely due to no Fire Station in Mantalai. As the nearest Fire Station in the area is at Chenani, locals have been demanding since long for a Fire Station at Mantalai.
The exact cause of fire could not be ascertained while property worth over Rs 40-50 lakh was lost in the incident. The police have taken cognizance of the incident.
