RAJOURI, June 6: Three abandoned structures and a cattle shed were damaged in Forest fire in Chatyari area of Rajouri last night.
Reports said that major forest fire for the last two days, gripped several forest areas of Rajouri and Nowshera. Most of these forests are covered by fir trees. Their dry leaves serve as fuel for the on-going fire. The people at Chatyari village kept fighting the fire during whole night. They along with Forest staff could contain fire during mid night. Two structures abandoned by the nomads and another pucca structure and a cattle shed of a local villager, were also burnt in the major fire.
The reports of fire from Lam- Ladoka, Nowshera and Manjakote said that forest fire created panic in several hamlets closer to the forests. The green gold and wild life has been badly affected with the fire. However, with the light rain in Rajouri areas this evening, the ongoing forest fire has been controlled by the nature.
