SRINAGAR, Mar 29: A High School in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district is running from two rooms and has a staff of just 3 teachers for 175 students.
The High School Chowgam in district Anantnag that was upgraded from Government Primary School in 2011 under Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhivan (RMSA) to High School lacks staff and accommodation in violation of guidelines.
Headmaster of the school, Mohammad Altaf says: “We told authorities several times to send us more staff, but there was no response so far.”
A group of parents of students said that the future of their children is at stake due to the negligence of authorities.
The students said that they fail to pay attention to the lectures of teachers due to chaotic atmosphere of classrooms in open. They said that for them the winter season begins earlier than its scheduled time. “Due to the acute shortage of infrastructure, we are forced to sit at homes, weeks earlier than the winter vacations are announced by the School Education Department. Our parents also insist us that we should stay back at homes to avoid flu and cold,” said a group of students.
Students of 10th standard said they are only taught one subject in a full day class work as subject expert teachers are not available.
The Chief Education Officer, Anantnag, said: “I have sent three more teachers few days ago, but I don’t know why they have not joined yet.”
Regarding infrastructure and other facilities he said: “I will look into the matter personally and the matter will be sorted out very soon.”
