3 trucks with 28 bovine animals seized, 3 arrested

KATHUA, Feb 20: The police seized three trucks loaded with 28 bovine animals and arrested three persons for bovines smuggling in the district early today.
A police spokesman said that Lakhanpur police during naka at Jagatpur near Radha Soami Satsang Ashram intercepted a truck bearing registration No. JK02AH/1281 driven by one Riaz Ahmed Mir, resident of Khileni in Doda. One Faqir Hussain, son of Yousuf Ali of Jandyal in Jammu was also nabbed along with driver. The vehicle was on way to Kashmir from Punjab and 11 bovine animals were loaded in it.
The police seized the vehicle along with animals and registered a case FIR No. 24/2013 against both the accused persons.
Meanwhile, a Rajbagh police party during naka intercepted a truck No. JK02AS/8825 on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway in the morning. The driver did not stop and sped away after jumping barrier. The police party chased the vehicle and again intercepted it at some distance. The driver and his associates jumped away and managed to escape leaving behind the vehicle. The police found 12 bovine animals loaded in it. The police seized the truck along with animals and registered a case in this connection. A manhunt was launched to nab the absconding accused persons. They were identified as Abdul Hamid alias, Munnu, son of Abdul Ghani of Ragoora in Jammu and Hussain, son of Musa, resident of Sube Chak in Hiranagar.
Yet another load carrier (Mahindra) in Rajbagh area was intercepted by police early today. While driver was arrested his associate managed to escape after jumping out of vehicle. The police found five bovine animals being smuggled in the vehicle from Punjab side to J&K. The arrested driver was identified as Bashir, son of Abdul Haq, resident of Bertain in Vijaypur. A case FIR No. 42/2013 was registered at Rajbagh police station in this connection.
