3-week Refresher Course in Life Sciences commences at JU

JAMMU, Nov 5:  Three weeks long UGC Refresher Course in the faculty of Life Sciences, being organized by UGC Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) and Department of Botany, commenced today at the University of Jammu.
The Refresher Course was inaugurated by JU Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma, who called upon the participating teachers to groom their students  in such a way that they not only shape their career  but also develop a good behavior and character among their students. He emphasized upon the teachers to get acquainted with all the latest teaching tools and techniques available so as to come up to the expectations of the vibrant and intelligent students.
Earlier,  Prof  Yashpal Sharma, HoD  Botany, said that the programme has been designed to be practical with updated lectures from eminent teachers and scientists with examples and exercises to provide skills, encourage participation and exchange information.
Addressing the participants, Prof  Rajnikant, Director, UGC HRDC,  informed that nomenclature of Academic Staff College has been changed to Human Resource Development Centre because of the excellent performance of the Staff College in its yesteryears, the infrastructure available with it and the university support system.
Giving brief overview of organizing such courses, Prof  Rajnikant said that  intention of this refresher course is to acquaint the teachers to the latest teaching techniques available and also for the teachers who don’t have access to the modern teaching tools available like the modern library and internet facility.
Prof  Kuldeep K  Sharma, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, gave an over view of the faculty of life sciences and also underlined the areas that need to be taken up during the three-week refresher course.
Prof  Keshav Sharma, Registrar, JU, in his remarks, said that such courses are imperative and to be in the contemporary knowledge based world, training programmes need to be encouraged.
Ranjeet Kalra, Assistant Director, presented formal vote of thanks.
Around 35 teachers from various Colleges and Universities of Mumbai, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh etc are participating in the three-week refresher course.
