300 kg unregulated kebabs confiscated

SRINAGAR, Jan 11:  Jammu and Kashmir Drug and Food Control Department today swung into action and confiscated more than 300 kilograms of half baked chicken, fish and mutton kebabs from various shops and vendors from several parts of city.
The action came just a day after Excelsior exclusively reported that these kebabs were being sold without any regulation. The Food Control officials said that team raided several shops and vendors. The raids were conducted at Chattabal, Shaheed Gunj, Khayam, Khanyar, Tengpora, Bemina and Chanpora areas in which the kebabs were confiscated.
Three main dealers including Kaloo fish shop, Bismillah fish shop and Iqra fish shop were raided and kebabs were ceased. The Food Control officials said that these Kebabs were confiscated after they were found poisonous which could affect the health of its consumers owing to lack of proper packaging and processing.
During inspection, the food items were found without any labeling, said Assistant Food Commissioner, Hilal Ahmad, adding they had also added synthetic coloring agent which is a clear violation of Food Safety and Standards Act”.
