31 more dengue cases reported

JAMMU, Sept 6: Thirty-one more cases of dengue were reported today from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of cases so far this year to 607.
A health official said that 340 people were screened today for dengue in Jammu province out of which 31 turned out to be positive. Of the 31 positive cases, 23 cases were reported from Jammu district while 3 cases were reported from Kathua, 2 from Rajouri and 1 each from Udhampur, Poonch and Reasi districts. The positive patients include 29 adults and 2 children, he added.
He said maximum 448 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Kathua district with 60 cases and Samba 44 cases. “There were 12 cases each in Rajouri and Udhampur, 9 each in Reasi and Poonch, 5 in Doda, one in Kishtwar, four in Kashmir and three from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 197 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals and of these, 143 have been discharged and 49 patients are undergoing treatment.
“The dengue cases are rising with each day,” the official said, and advised that citizens should ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses as mosquitoes responsible for dengue breed in stagnant water. He said that water filled utensils and tanks should be kept covered and the cooler should be empty two times in a week.
