RAJOURI, May 15: At least 33 sheep and goats were killed in hail-storm and lightning in Dera-ki-Gali area of Thanna Mandi last evening.
A police spokesman said that it was raining heavily in this entire belt of Thana Mandi. In view of thunder and hail storm, the two shepherd, Abdullah and Hakam Din (brothers), son of Fakhar Din, residents of Dera Ki Gali who had gone to Dhok, Dora Wali gathered all the animals under a tree and they also took shelter under another nearby tree.
It was around 6.45 pm suddenly a powerful flash light amidst thunder storm, hit the animals killing eight goats and 25 sheep on the spot and causing injuries to many others. The poor shepherds, however, had miraculous escape. Today, a team of Veterinary Department led by a doctor and police from Thana Mandi visited the spot. The police has taken cognizance of the matter. The locals have demanded compensation for the poor nomads.
