SRINAGAR, May 22: Two bakers from Pulwama district were among 33 people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Kashmir today taking the Jammu and Kashmir tally to 1489.
As per the official figures, 18 of the cases were reported from Shopian, three each from Baramulla and Kupwara, two each from Anantnag, Srinagar, Pulwama while one case each was reported from Kulgam, Bandipora and Budgam.

Among these cases 10 tested positive at SKIMS Soura, seven at CD hospital Srinagar, 16 at SKIMS at Bemina, one from Budgam at Army’s Command Hospital and one at a private lab.
With today’s positive cases, the number of cases has gone to 1489 and out of which 749 are active with 603 in Kashmir. 720 patients have recovered, 36 of them were discharged today, while 20 have died.
Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan told Excelsior that 10 samples out of 2088 processed tested positive including three persons each from Baramulla and Kupwara, two from Shopian and one each from Srinagar and Budgam districts.
Those from Kupwara include three men- 30-year-old from Kultoora Handwara, 42-year-old from Chaiwan Lolab and 32-year-old from Hyhama. Those from Baramulla include 30-year-old man from Wuhama Rafiabad besides 30-year-old woman and 35 year old man from Hardichillo village of Tangmarg.
The positives include 25-year-old woman from Palpora and 45-year-old Memandar Shopian, 23 year old man from Sheikhpora in district Budgam who returned from Bangladesh and 19-year-old man from Hyderpora Srinagar who also returned from the same country.
Nodal Officer for COVID-19 at the Government Medical College Srinagar, Dr Salim Khan, told Excelsior that out of 720 samples processed at Microbiology Lab of CD Hospital, seven tested positive.
They include two bakers from Pinglena Pulwama, one of them is 30-year-old and other 55-year-old. The other cases include 65-year-old woman from Malnag Anantnag, 85-year-old man from Qazigund Kulgam, 25-year-old from Drarangan Anantnag, 38-year-old woman, initially admitted to LD hospital and now shifted to JVC Bemina and 48-year-old woman pneumonia patient from Kargil, admitted to SMHS hospital Srinagar.
Principal SKIMS Medical College Srinagar, Dr Riyaz Untoo told Excelsior 378 samples including 188 from Budgam, 107 from Srinagar, 22 from Baramulla and 83 from Shopian were processed at SKIMS Bemina today and 16 from Shopian tested positive.
They include a one year old boy and 7 men aged 65, 24, 30, 28, 25, 45 and 18 years besides three girls aged 7, 17 and 15 years and 5 women aged 26, 42, 70, 65 and 19 years from village Chatawattan in district Shopian.
With the fresh cases, Anantnag now has 266 COVID-19 positives, followed by Kulgam 193, Srinagar 176, Bandipora 138, Baramulla 132, Kupwara 128, Shopian 127, Budgam 63, Ganderbal 27 and Pulwama 21.
Authorities said till date 128517 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 32077 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by Government, 73 in Hospital Quarantine, 749 in hospital isolation and 25132 under home surveillance. Besides, 70466 persons have completed their surveillance period.
