34 fresh dengue cases reported

JAMMU, Sept 3: Thirty-four fresh cases of dengue were reported today from various districts of Jammu and Kashmir, taking the total number of cases so far this year to 487.
A health official said that 236 people were screened today for dengue in Jammu province out of which 34 turned out to be positive. Of the 34 positive cases, 24 cases were reported alone from Jammu district while 6 cases were reported from Samba and 4 from Kathua. The positive patients include 29 adults and 5 children, he added.
He said maximum 358 cases reported so far are from Jammu district followed by Kathua district with 46 cases and Samba 42 cases. “There were 10 cases in Rajouri, 8 in Reasi, 6 in Poonch, 5 in Udhampur, 4 in Doda, one in Kishtwar, four in Kashmir and three from other parts of the country,” the official said.
The official further informed that a total of 140 dengue patients have been admitted to the hospitals and of these, 112 have been discharged and 25 patients are undergoing treatment.
“The dengue cases are rising with each day,” the official said, and advised that citizens should ensure no stagnation of water in and around their houses as mosquitoes responsible for dengue breed in stagnant water. He said that water filled utensils and tanks should be kept covered and the cooler should be empty two times in a week.
He said as the dengue mosquito only bites during day, one should wear clothes that cover one’s body.
