342 traced, 246 still missing

JAMMU, Sept 24:  Nearly 20 days after worst ever floods and rains struck the Kashmir Valley, as many as 246 persons remained missing even as the 24×7 Connect Centre of the State Government has traced 342 persons so far, including 30 today only.
Amit Sharma, Nodal Officer of Connect Centre and Special Secretary Animal Husbandry Department, told the Excelsior that out of a total of 588 persons recorded as missing so far with the Connect Centre, 342 have been traced within the State and outside while 246 others remained missing.
Sharma said the Connect Centre got a call from Resident Commissioner’s Office in New Delhi today that 30 persons from Uttar Pradesh were untraced after Kashmir floods.
The Centre staff acted immediately and traced all of them. They were safe and sound, he added. Ten of them hailed from Jaunpur, four from Amroha, 14 from Shamli and one each from Bijnore and Sitapur.
The Centre was now working to trace whereabouts of remaining 246 missing persons, Sharma said.
