UDHAMPUR, Aug 27: District Administration Udhampur today demolished at least 35 illegal structures on Jammu- Srinagar National Highway.
On the directions of Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Indu Kanwal Chib, an anti- encroachment drive was conducted by Amit Verma, Tehsildar Udhampur and Ved Prakash Tehsildar Chenani along with a team of Revenue officers- Naib Tehsildar Sudrshan Gupta and Mohd Salim and police party of Udhampur and Chenani representatives of National Highway Authority of India from Jakhani to Narsu in the jurisdiction of Udhampur and Chenani.
During the drive, 35 illegal structures constructed along the side of highway were demolished on the spot. Structures demolished included like stairs, extensions, roofs and annexes encroaching upon the road and several shops constructed on Government land.
As per the Tehsildar, the anti-encroachment drive will continue till all the illegal structures constructed are removed. National Highway Authority had raised the issue of illegal structures constructed along the highway in violation of rules.
Meanwhile, District Administration Udhampur has asked the public to desist from encroachments, otherwise strict action will be initiated against the defaulters.
