Speaking with media persons during the release of a Special Cancellation Stamp on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Chief Postmaster General, J&K Circle, Amitabh Singh, said that India Post has several plans for expansion amid changes in communication modes.
“Due to the advent of the internet, people are using messages and emails for communication and no longer write letters. Consequently, there has been an increase in e-commerce, leading to a 35 percent growth in parcel deliveries. To accommodate this, we are expanding our operations to deliver more parcels,” he said.
He also discussed the financial services offered by India Post, mentioning a mobile application that helps people withdraw money from banks while staying at home.
“Using that application, people can withdraw money from any bank, and the postmaster will ensure that the withdrawn money reaches them. It is a major home delivery service, which we are expanding,” he said.
Additionally, he spoke about other services offered by India Post, such as Aadhaar updates, delivery of driving licenses, and passport-related services.
Singh noted that Postal Life Insurance, which has seen a 17 percent increase nationwide, was previously available only to Government employees but is now open to the general public at a minimal premium.
“What we offer under Postal Life Insurance is unique in the market; with no commission charged, the premium is significantly lower, and there is also a 7 percent bonus, which is a market leader,” he said.
On the occasion of Vijay Diwas, Singh said that India Post issued a Special Cancellation Stamp to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country and ensured victory.
“In Kargil, a stamp has also been released today by the Army Postal Service. This stamp will be on all letters and parcels today to commemorate the soldiers,” he said.
He further informed that similar stamps have been released in Jammu and Mumbai. “We want to spread the message of this day through the medium at our disposal,” he added.
