UDHAMPUR, Jan 2: Udhampur police today seized about 35 kg poppy straw, which was being smuggled in a Maruti Van by the accused, who was also arrested on the spot.
The narcotic smuggler, identified as Romi Gupta of Stani, Udhampur, who was driving the van, was held along with the consignment during a naka at Jakhani.
A police party, led by SHO Udhampur and DySP Hqrs Udhampur, under the overall supervision of SSP Mohd Suleman Choudhary, conducted surprise checking of the vehicles and intercepted a Maruti Van bearing registration number JK14-4105 near Jakhani Naka. The van was subjected to thorough search, during which 35 Kg poppy straw was found packed in gunny bags and concealed inside the vehicle.
The accused driver was arrested on the spot and vehicle was also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR under NDPS Act has been registered in Police Station Udhampur.
