3500 willow clefts seized, one held

KATHUA, Nov 9: The police seized a truck smuggling 3500 willow clefts to Punjab from Kashmir and arrested its driver at Rajbagh last night.
Reports said acting on a tip off from Forest Protection Force, a police naka party at Rajbagh intercepted a truck No. JK02AM/ 9262 on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway last mid night. During physical check of the vehicle, 3500 pieces of unfinished cricket bats concealed under other goods were recovered from the truck.
Owner of the goods managed to escape from the spot while driver was  arrested.  He has been identified as Som Nath, son of Gurdas Ram, resident of Chak Mohd Yar in R S Pura. Owner of the goods, Showkat Parvez of  Channi Himmat,    Jammu has been evading arrest. Police  registered a case in this connection and started investigation.
