JAMMU, Apr 3: Indira Gandhi National Open University organized its 36th Convocation today simultaneously at 33 Regional Centres across the country, including the Regional Centre Jammu and Srinagar.

As many as 2,79,917 students were declared qualified to be presented with the degree/diploma/certificate in the convocation functions at IGNOU Headquarters and 33 Regional Centres. These included 108 doctorate Degrees as well.
All those students who had successfully completed their respective programmes of study in the Term-End Examinations held in December 2021 and June 2022 were eligible to receive their Degree/Diploma certificates in the Convocation ceremony.
Droupadi Murmu, President of India, was the chief guest on the occasion and delivered the convocation address at the New Delhi Headquarters of IGNOU. Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt of India, was the guest of honour.
The convocation function of Jammu Regional Centre was held in the Convention Centre Jammu. Dr Ravindra Kumar Sinha, Vice Chancellor, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra, was the chief guest for the convocation ceremony at Jammu.
A total of 10506 students from Regional Centre Jammu were declared successful and eligible to receive Diplomas and Degree Certificates in the 36th Convocation function at Jammu. They included 4536 students of Master Degree programmes, 5230 students of Bachelor Degree programmes, 469 students of Diploma/Post Graduate Diploma programmes and 271 students of Certificate/Post Graduate Certificate programmes.
In his convocation address, Prof R K Sinha appreciated the efforts made by the Regional Centre functionaries for the sincere efforts to widen the spectrum of education in the region. He urged the awardees that they have to translate their educational achievements to benefit the world and that they all have a collective responsibility to work for the progress of the society and the country as a whole.
Regional Director I/C, Dr Sandeep Gupta, presented the Regional Centre Repor and highlighted the initiatives that the University and the Regional Centre Jammu have taken to strengthen students support services network in the region.
Dr Sandeep informed that for the promotion of Indian Art and Culture, IGNOU has recently launched a number of academic programmes like MA in Jyotish, Vedic Studies, Sanskrit, Hindi and Urdu to foster Indian tradition and Culture.
S Tejinder Pal Singh, Deputy Registrar of the Regional Centre, presented the vote of thanks. The students of GCW Parade Jammu performed the Saraswati Vandana.
