JAMMU, May 9: A Joint team of District Administration and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) today carried out extensive anti encroachment drive on the Jammu-Katra and Jammu-Jajjar Kotli stretch of National Highway in Jammu district.
Around 37 structures and 20 large size hoardings were razed to ground at 15 locations which were identified by Project Director, NHAI as encroachments. A total of 32 kilometers of stretch was cleared of all kinds of encroachments during the drive.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, Arun Kumar Manhas along with Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar, Nagrota and SHO Nagrota personally remained present on the spot to carry out the drive. The Project Director NHAI also remained present on the spot along with his men and machinery.
It is pertinent to mention that there was barely any resistance to the drive of administration since no pick and choose policy was adopted. Advance planning was undertaken by the District Administration on the instructions of the District Magistrate, Simrandeep Singh.
“The administration is now going to carry out a similar drive on the Kunjwani Byepass stretch of the National Highway in coming days”, an official spokesman said.
