JAMMU, Nov 11: Under the flagship programme of Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA), 3700 Ha of degraded forest area will be taken up for plantation in Jammu division by planting over 26 lakh plants during 2013-14.
The information was given in a meeting chaired by Minister for Forests and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad, convened to review the physical and financial achievements registered under the scheme.
While receiving the brief regarding the progress under CAMPA, the Minister instructed that the works under CAMPA must be visible besides plantations should be ensured on both sides of the National Highway especially from Jammu to Udhampur. He also directed constituting a team of officers to check and verify the progress of CAMPA on ground besides ensuring judicious utilization of funds.
Regarding infrastructure development under CAMPA, the meeting was informed that 15 new buildings are to be constructed besides under the State Plan Rs. 128 lakh will be utilized for afforestation. Under the “Greening of Jammu City Programme” as many as 25000 plants have been planted in various residential colonies and along main roads of Jammu city, the meeting was told.
The Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Abhai Kumar told the meeting that under the programme demarcation of forests a whooping amount of Rs. 2.86 crore has been earmarked for completion of 28 plans during this year. He also informed that the records of the Forest Department since its establishment way behind in 1900-01 will be digitalized and preserved for which the process has been started.
The meeting was attended by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Abhai Kumar, Addl. Secretary Forest, Dr. G. N Itoo, Addl, PCCF, Deepak Khana, CCF, Jammu, Roshan Jaggy, Conservators of Forests and Divisional Forest officers of Jammu Division.
