JAMMU, Oct 19: Thirty eight shopkeepers were booked and a fine to the tune of Rs 35,700 realized as fine from them during checking of various shops and business establishments by a team of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department in different parts of the city today.
The team was constituted on the directions of Minister for CA&PD and Tribal Affairs Choudhary Zulfkar Ali, under the supervision of Director, G S Chib was headed by Deputy Director (Supplies) Atamdev Singh, Assistant Director Mumtaz Mirza and other staff conducted 115 inspections and checking of Halwai and Sweet shops, Provision Stores, Karyana shops, Dhabas, Restaurants, Bakery shops etc in the areas of Bakshi Nagar, Gurah Bakshi Nagar, Sarwal, Talab Tilllo, Canal Road, Rehari Colony, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Gangyal, Digiana etc and booked 38 defaulters for violation of various provisions of Essential Commodities Act, including non-display of rate lists, over-charging, use of domestic LPG cylinders for commercial purposes etc.
All the commercial establishments were warned not to violate the provisions of Essential Commodities Act and adhere to the norms and rates notified from time to time.
