JAMMU, Dec 24: As per the instruction of Union Ministry of External Affairs, “Passport Mela” was again organized by Regional Passport Office, Jammu. This was the third consecutive Saturday when RPO Jammu kept open in order to bring down the waiting period of appointment cycle for submission of applications for passport under normal category.
From last few months, the demand of passports has been increased a lot and consequently, the applicants are getting delayed online appointments. In order to expedite the application process, Ministry of External Affairs has decided to organize melas for various Regional Passport Offices including RPO Jammu.
On 21st Dec, 250 online appointment slots, on first come first serve basis, were made available at website https://www.passportindia.gov.in/ and mPassport Seva mobile app for the applicants at PSK Centre Jammu and eventually, 224 applications were successfully processed during the Mela today.
The usual process of scrutinization and verification of essential documents, capturing of photographs and biometrics (fingerprints), etc under the normal category was conducted from 9:30 AM to 5 PM for applicants, who had booked their respective appointments for the designated day and time. The applicants with pre-booked appointments were only allowed for the entry. Apart from this, a dedicated counter/help desk was there to assist all such applicants to get their services in an easy, convenient and quick manner.
Regional Passport Officer Rajesh Kumar has advised all citizens to apply their respective applications through www.passportindia.gov.in or mobile app mPassport Seva, which can be downloaded from Android and iOS application stores. The Officer has also advised applicants not to deal with any agent and warned to avoid any third party or intermediary for any kind of passport related service.
Further, he informed that the citizens can visit RPO Jammu for any enquiry between 10 AM to 12.30 PM whereas telephone enquiry is also available between 9:30 AM to 4:30 PM from Monday to Friday.
