4 arrested for ATM machine theft

Srinagar, Apr 7: Police today busted a gang of thieves involved in lifting of an ATM machine along with cash from Karanagar area on February 5.
A Police spokesman said that a complaint was received by Police Station Karan Nagar from Branch Manager SBI Gole Market Karan Nagar alleging therein that one ATM machine of SBI Bank installed by SBI Authority at Gole Market Karan Nagar has been stolen along with cash during the intervening night of February 5 and 6.
He said the ATM machine along with cash amounting to Rs 23, 34, 500 was stolen and on this complaint a case with FIR No. 06/2018 under section 457, 380 RPC was registered in Police Station Karan Nagar and investigation was taken up.
“During the course of investigation, police busted a gang of four ATM machine thieves from Srinagar who were involved in the case and on their disclosure, 2 vehicles which were utilized for the theft of ATM machine were also seized,” he said
He identified the four accused as Junaid Bashir Bhat, a resident of Noonmai Yaripora Kulgam, Umer Sadeeq Ganie, a resident of Muttibug Yaripora, Junaid Bashir Bhat, a resident of Muttibug Yaripora and Zahid Ahmad, a resident of Ranipora Shopian.
“Further more arrests and recoveries are expected. It is a gang which has been orchestrating organized crime of ATM looting in many parts of the valley including Srinagar city. Their involvement in similar thefts of ATMs is suspected and being investigated,” he said.
