UDHAMPUR, Sept 11: Following escape of two drug peddlers among three accused from custody in Udhampur Police Station during the intervening night of September 10-11, SSP Udhampur today ordered transfer of the concerned SHO and immediate suspension of four cops besides registration of a case against the Sentry, who has been arrested for questioning.
Reports said that two narcotic smuggling accused namely Iftikhar Ali, son of Muzzafar Din of Kotli Bain, Chopra Shop Udhampur and Parvinder Singh alias Pammu, son of Rattan Singh of Talab Salain Udhampur, who were under arrest in NDPS cases, fled away along with a theft suspect, from Police Station Udhampur due to the grave negligence of the Sentry on duty.
The theft suspect namely Mohd Zahid, allegedly helped the drug peddlers to flee away from the Police Station by jumping the boundary wall taking the advantage of darkness around 0001 hours.
After the matter came into light, Police teams were constituted to raid various suspected locations of these drug smugglers who were arrested in NDPS cases bearing FIR number 448/2018 and 462/2018. Till filing of this report, no success was achieved to trace out the fleeing accused.
Taking serious cognizance of the grave negligence of Policemen on duty, SSP Udhampur Raees Ahmad Bhat ordered immediate suspension of Head Constable Qasim, Head Constable Parshotam, SGCt Des Raj and SGCt Daleep Singh. A case FIR was also registered in this connection and the SGCt Daleep Kumar, who was on Sentry duty, has been detained for questioning.
The SSP also ordered transfer of SHO Udhampur Vijay Singh Choudhary to the District Police Lines. However, the transfer of SHO triggered protests in the town amidst allegations that he was shifted under a conspiracy even as he was acting tough against the drug peddlers.
