SRINAGAR, July 2: Four people died in Dard Harie Kralpora areas of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today after they fell into the well which they were digging in the village.
A labourer identified as Muhammad Altaf Sheikh was engaged in cleaning a well in the area and died due to suffocation.
Three others identified as Mumtaz Ahmad, Altaf Khan and Showket Ahmad Khan who went into the well in an attempt to rescue him, also died.
All the four were rescued from the well in an unconscious state and were shifted to hospital where they were declared dead.
Officials said that four persons were rescued from a well and all of them were unconscious till they were shifted to hospital.
Locals along with police, team from administration and medical at the spot brought out the youth, who had slipped into 20 feet deep well.
The official said on reaching the spot, first, the upper surface was broken after which all the four unconscious youth were brought out and evacuated to the nearby health centre.
The police officials said the bodies have been handed over to their legal heirs for last rites after all formalities.
