SRINAGAR, Apr 12: Police arrested four notorious drug peddlers and recovered 14 kilograms of charas from their possession in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district today.
SSP Kupwara, Shamsher Hussain, said that while continuing with the special drive against drug abuse/sale of psychotropic substances in the district, special constituted team of District Police Kupwara achieved another success by arresting 03 notorious drug peddlers from Drugmulla area and recovered 13 kgs of charas from their possession.
He said in another action, police personnel of PP Bazar arrested 01 person from Kupwara town and recovered 01 kg of charas from his possession.
The arrested persons have been identified as Abdul Majid Khan, Muhktiyar Ahmad Khan, Jan Mohd Lachi, all residents of Dilbagh Lolab and Manzoor Ahmad Sofi , a resident of Sohipora Kupwara A/P Bramri Kupwara.
“In this regard, two cases with FIR No. 65/2018 and FIR No. 67/2018 u/s 8/20 NDPS act has been registered in Police Station Kupwara. Further investigations in both these cases are going on,” he said.
“During the year 2017, under special drive, Kupwara Police has recovered 4.5 Kgs of Brown Sugar, 2 Kgs of heroin, 31 Kgs of charas, 1 Kg bhuki, and other psychotropic substances and 54 drug peddlers have been arrested. One notorious drug peddler has been booked under PSA. During the year 2018, 21 Kgs of charas and 500 gms of heroin have been recovered and 09 drug peddlers including a notorious lady drug peddler have been arrested so far,” he added.
