SRINAGAR, Mar 16: Police today arrested four drug peddlers from Srinagar, Baramulla, and Budgam, recovering brown sugar and charas from their possession.
Authorities stated that during patrolling from Bemina Chowk to Boatman Colony, a police party intercepted a vehicle driving suspiciously and recklessly.
As per police, the driver attempted to flee but was tactfully stopped, adding that upon stopping, the driver immediately jumped out and fled the scene.
However, the co-passenger remained inside and was apprehended on the spot, police said.
He, as per the police, identified himself as Sameer Ahmad Bhat, son of Ali Mohammad Bhat, a resident of Woyan Pampore.
During questioning, the arrested accused disclosed the name of the driver and vehicle owner as Mudasir Ahmad Pir, son of Shareef-U-Din Pir, a resident of Firdous Colony, Bemina.
Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered a substantial quantity of brown sugar-like substance from the dashboard.
“Additionally, a weighing machine and a mobile phone were seized on the spot. The vehicle used in the crime was also confiscated.”
Meanwhile, in Baramulla, a police party at a checkpoint near DPL Kanthbagh intercepted two suspicious individuals who attempted to flee but were tactfully apprehended.
During the search, approximately 100 grams of a charas-like substance was recovered from their possession, police said.
They have been identified as Javid Ahmed Sheikh, son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh, and Sameer Ahmed Sheikh, son of Mohd Subhan Sheikh-both residents of Khawajabagh, Baramulla.
“They have been arrested and shifted to the police station, where they remain in custody,” police said.
In Budgam, a police party from Khansahib Police Station, during a checkpoint at Bugroo Crossing, intercepted a scooty bearing registration number JK04-5815.
“During the search, a heroin-like substance was recovered from the scooty rider, identified as Adil Showkat Khan, son of Showkat Ahmad Khan, a resident of Nilsar Mohallah Wavoora, Baramulla, presently residing in Ompora, Budgam. He was arrested on the spot,” police said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered at the respective police stations, and further investigations are underway.
