RAMBAN, June 3: Four drug peddlers have been arrested along with huge quantity of poppy straw and heroin.
As per police sources, a team from Police Post Jawahar Tunnel laid a naka near Shaitani Nallah and intercepted a truck bearing registration number PB19M-3663.
During checking, police team recovered 33 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested the driver, who has been identified as Jagjeet Singh, son of Gurdev Singh, a resident of District Ludhiana, Punjab.
Meanwhile, a team from Banihal Police Station laid a surprise naka near T-Chowk and intercepted a person, who was moving under suspicious circumstance.
During frisking, police recovered 250 grams heroin from the possession of the pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Irshad Ahmed, son of Ahmedullah of Kawna Khari, District Ramban.
Police team led by Incharge Jawahar Tunnel Police Post SI Sameer Ahmed and SHO Banihal Police Station Inspector Aejaz Ahmed made the arrests under the supervision of SDPO Banihal Sajad Sarwar, Additional SP Ramban Sanjay Parihar and SSP Ramban Anita Sharma.
In another case, the sleuths of SOG Jammu seized 90 kilograms of poppy straw from a truck bearing registration number PB23M-4084 at Dyalachak area of Hiranagar in District Kathua and arrested two persons.
The accused have been identified as Sagar Singh, son of Mangat Rai and Harjeet Singh, son of Bhajan Singh, both residents of District Ludhiana Punjab.
Cases under relevant sections have been registered at Police Stations Banihal and Hiranagar and investigation started.
