KATHUA, Nov 5: In a major breakthrough against ATM fraud cases, Rajbagh police in Kathua district has arrested four fraudsters involved in cheating innocent citizens by looting their hard earned money after using their ATM cards.
A police spokesman here said that the police team led by Inspector Manjeet Singh, SHO Rajbagh during checking duty intercepted a car bearing registration number UK17H-3050 and seized 20 ATM cards of different banks from it.
All were arrested as suspects and during sustained questioning they disclosed that they targeted innocents especially old aged and women at ATM locations and withdrew money by swapping their ATM cards.
They also disclosed their involvement in number of ATM frauds.
The arrested persons were identified as Pankaj Kumar of Village Pinjora, Saharnpur, UP, Sonu Kumar, Jagmohan and Deepak Sharma, all residents of Saharnpur, UP.
A cash of Rs 1,08,500 was also recovered from them while further investigation into the case is going on.
Police said earlier there were reports of ATM frauds in Hiranagar and Dayalachak areas of the Kathua district where they fraudsters swapped the cards of old men and women who could not properly insert the card or enter the pin number etc on ATM while withdrawing the money from it.
The police has received many such complaints in which people had alleged that they were duped of their money from ATMs after swapping the cards by cheats.
