DODA, June 19: Police today arrested four persons and recovered 175 Kg forest produce (Nagshatri) from their possession.
Police spokesman said that on the basis of reliable information regarding extraction of forest produce in Bhagwah forests and smuggling of the same, Doda Police laid a naka near Akramabad and intercepted a TATA Sumo bearing registration number JK02AY-0788.
During search, seven bags containing about 175 kilogram of forest produce (Nagshatri) having value of Rs 4 lakh in the market was seized and all the four persons involved in the illegal trade were arrested.
The arrested persons have been identified as Mohd Rafiq, Mohd Amin, Zia-ul-Rashid and Shabir Ahmed. A case under Section 379 RPC and 6 Forest Act has been registered against them.
It is pertinent to mention here that Doda Police on the instructions of SP Arif Rishu has launched a special drive against the extraction/illegal trade of forest produce.
