4 houses gutted in major forest fire

UDHAMPUR, June 20: A major fire broke out in the Forest Compartment Number 67/U Block Bali Tirshi, about 12 km Udhampur town in which four residential houses were totally gutted.

Official sources said that the blaze erupted in the forests of Bali Tirshi Block last evening and after receiving this information Range Officer Sanjeev with his team, AD Fire Service Sarvesh Langer, SDRF and few officials of district administration rushed to the spot. With the help of Army fire tender, alongside local volunteers, launched an extensive fire fighting operation in the area and controlled the fire.
There were no reports of any casualty or injury but four houses were completely gutted in the incident. These houses belonged to Om Parkash, Chanchal Kumar, Ashok Kumar and Kartar Chand. Eight families comprising total 32 members became homeless in the incident. The loss of property was put at around Rs 50 lakhs.
Local villagers appealed to the LG Manoj Sinha to pay attention to these poor homeless villagers and provide adequate compensation to them.
Officials said that the operation to douse the fire completely lasted till this evening.
