4 killed, as car plunges into gorge

RAMBAN, Sept 20: Four persons including two real brothers were killed today when a car skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge here at Kela Morh on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

“The mishap occurred this afternoon at about 2.15 when an Alto car bearing registration number JK02BA-4519, which was on its way from Srinagar to Jammu fell into a 350 feet deep gorge while negotiating a curve at Kela Morh, resulting in on the spot death of four persons travelling in the car,” a police spokesman said.
Soon after receiving the information, ROP Jawans on duty along with local police and volunteers of Indian Red Cross Society of Ramban rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. After a hectic 2-hour long operation, which concluded at about 4 PM, all the bodies were retrieved.
The official said that the bodies of all the four deceased, who were identified as Shams Khan and Aalbir Ahmed, sons of Haji Mirza Khan, resident of Gole Gujral, Jammu and Sham Mohd son of Alaf Din, resident of Gole Gujral, Jammu and Shokat Ali son of Kaku, resident of Akhnoor, were shifted to District Hospital, Ramban, for post mortem and their families in Jammu were informed.
“It appears that the deceased were traders and had gone to Srinagar for some business purpose, as a cash amount of Rs 5,08,000 in two packets (one packet containing Rs 4,90,000 and other Rs 18000) was found from the accident site”, the police official said, adding, a case in this connection was registered at police station Ramban and further investigations started.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of four persons in the road mishap and has conveyed her sympathies with the bereaved families.
